  • making more money

    hi everyone

some of you may know some previous posts about getting out hospitality and move onto other things, the time has finally come but have a few questions because am going to have slightly less money for little while until the part time business is in place.

was wondering how to make money for now until the part time business is in place, reason for asking is because lifestyle is too expensive for just income support but will survive short term.

can think short term of buying a few thrift store items and cleaning them and re selling, how do you get your items to sell fast and get buyers but for a decent amount and make something.

unless something else is found am going to be getting less money and just cant afford to not work.

it is sad but can understand why owners have put it on market, they been doing 7 day weeks for 15 years and its time has come.

reason for staying is because there currently wasn't any other option plus because of the owners and now that it has sold am having to work something out because it has been sold.

just want the problems sorted and to go away and to get money on top of centrelink.

was planning for this to happen in next couple years and to hopefully be out in next few years but it was a bit too soon and unexpected and now trying to work out something for someone with mild disability.

do plan and will be doing part time business but it may take a while and thinking of something for now until plan is in place, how do you work part time business so it doesnt affect income support as in australia you can work part time and do so many hours and earn so much before reduction.

am hoping to reach out on here for someone to talk to.

    thanks

I understand that you're going through a challenging time with the recent changes in your work situation. It's commendable that you're proactive in seeking ways to make ends meet while you transition to your part-time business. I'm here to offer some practical advice and support as you navigate this period of change.

Firstly, exploring the idea of buying thrift store items and reselling them is a smart move for generating some extra income in the short term. Thrift stores often have hidden gems that can be transformed into appealing items with a bit of creativity and effort. Here are some tips to help you maximize your sales and make the process smoother:

    1. Choose Marketable Items: Look for items that have a broad appeal. Vintage clothing, unique home decor, or collectibles can catch the eye of potential buyers.

    2. Quality Cleaning and Presentation: Clean and present the items well. A little effort in restoring or enhancing the appearance can significantly increase their perceived value. High-quality images are crucial for online selling platforms.

    3. Research Pricing: Research similar items online to understand their market value. Set your prices competitively, taking into account the condition and uniqueness of your items.

    4. Utilize Online Platforms: Leverage popular online platforms like eBay, Etsy, or Facebook Marketplace to reach a wider audience. These platforms offer a significant customer base and can help your items sell faster.

    5. Build a Brand Image: If you plan to do this consistently, consider building a brand image. Create a name for your online store and maintain a consistent style in your listings. This helps in creating trust and attracting repeat customers.

In addition to reselling thrift store items, you might want to explore other short-term opportunities to supplement your income:

    1. Freelancing: If you have skills in writing, graphic design, programming, or any other area, consider freelancing. Websites like Upwork and Fiverr connect freelancers with clients looking for specific services.

    2. Gig Economy: Participate in the gig economy by offering services like dog walking, house cleaning, or yard work. Apps like TaskRabbit can help you find local gigs.

    3. Online Tutoring or Consulting: If you have expertise in a particular subject, consider offering online tutoring or consulting services. Many people are willing to pay for guidance and knowledge.

Regarding your part-time business, it's great that you're aware of the income support regulations in Australia. To ensure your income support isn't affected, keep track of your hours and earnings, staying within the allowable limits. The Australian government provides clear guidelines on income support while working part-time, so make sure to stay informed.

I understand that this unexpected situation may be causing stress and uncertainty. It's essential to reach out for support, whether it's from friends, family, or even professional counselors. Additionally, consider exploring local community resources that may provide assistance or guidance for individuals with mild disabilities.

Remember, you're not alone in facing these challenges. It's okay to seek help and take one step at a time. If you ever feel overwhelmed, consider talking to a counselor or seeking advice from support services in your area.

I hope these suggestions provide some guidance as you navigate this transitional period. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or if you simply need someone to talk to. Take care, and best of luck with your endeavors.

It's great that you have a long-term plan in place, but I completely understand that you need some immediate solutions to cover your expenses in the short term. I'm here to provide you with some options and advice on how to make money during this period.

One idea you mentioned is buying thrift store items, cleaning them up, and reselling them. This can be a viable option to generate some income. To ensure that your items sell fast and for a decent amount, there are a few things you can do. First, focus on finding items that are in demand and have a good resale value. Research popular items or trends to get a sense of what people are looking for. Additionally, make sure the items you purchase are in good condition and clean them thoroughly before listing them for sale. Taking attractive pictures and writing detailed descriptions can also help attract potential buyers.

In addition to reselling thrift store items, there are other ways you can make money in the short term. One option is to explore freelance work or gig economy platforms. Depending on your skills and interests, you can find freelance opportunities in areas like writing, graphic design, virtual assistance, or even driving for ride-sharing services. These platforms often have a range of short-term projects that you can take on to earn some extra income.

Another idea is to consider offering services in your local community. Think about your skills and what you enjoy doing. Are you good at gardening, pet sitting, or home organizing? You could advertise your services online or through local community bulletin boards. Word-of-mouth referrals can also be a great way to attract clients. Offering a service allows you to leverage your abilities and potentially earn money while doing something you enjoy.

It's important to note that if you're receiving income support in Australia, there are limits to how much you can earn before your support is reduced. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations regarding part-time work while receiving income support. Understanding these guidelines will help you plan your part-time business in a way that won't negatively impact your support.

While you're navigating this transitional period, it's completely normal to feel overwhelmed or uncertain about the future. Change can be challenging, especially when it comes unexpectedly. It's important to take care of your emotional well-being during this time. Reach out to friends, family, or even online communities for support and guidance. Sometimes, just having someone to talk to can make a big difference in how you approach and cope with the challenges ahead.

Remember, this is just a temporary phase. You have a plan in place to start your part-time business, and although it may take some time, you're actively working towards your goals. Stay focused, stay positive, and believe in yourself. With determination and perseverance, you can overcome any obstacles that come your way.

I hope this advice helps you find some short-term solutions to make money while you work towards your long-term goals. Remember, you're not alone in this journey, and there are resources and support available to you. Keep pushing forward, stay resilient, and things will gradually fall into place.
